Jared Howard was born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland in a large, tight knit family that often came together over good food. Over summer vacations to Ocean City, family reunions in Western Philadelphia, and gatherings in Rocky Mount, North Carolina, Jared came to love the unique cuisine and flavors of the Chesapeake Bay, Appalachia, and the American South.
After working many years for the federal government, in 2004 Jared moved to New York City, where he rediscovered his passion for food. Eating his way through the varied cuisines and restaurants in the city, Jared found power in food as a means of exploring different cultures and communities. Years later, he finally decided to take the plunge, pivoting to a career in hospitality.
Jared’s culinary education began in 2014 at Harlem’s The Cecil as
apprentice to Chef JJ Johnson. He later found himself in acclaimed kitchens such as Gotham Bar & Grill, Per Se, and Bouchon.
After 6 years in some of New York’s best kitchens, it was time to bring it back home. In 2020, Jared launched HoneyBunny’s Chicken, a pop-up that captures the food culture and nostalgia of his youth through a menu of comforting Maryland-inspired dishes. In 2021, HoneyBunny’s Pop-up menu options were expanded.
