Kate Kook is an entrepreneur and chef who combines old world traditions and contemporary expressions of the long heralded “super food” of Korea: kimchi. Growing up in Seoul, she was influenced by her mother’s thoughtfulness in selecting ingredients and her creative style of cooking. Kate’s experience of living in New York City since 1999 inspired her to make small batch kimchi recipes using local, seasonal ingredients, and in 2015 she launched Kimchi Kooks.

Now, at Kate’s Kitchen in Bay Ridge, Kate has developed a wide array of menu items including her handmade kimchi, freshly made banchan and yangnyeom, along with seasonal dishes as part of a rotating weekly menu. Kate expresses her culinary creativity in how she translates her own Korean essence into a personal and unique experience for customers when they visit her shop. She believes that authentic Korean character is conveyed in the appreciation for generational knowledge, attention given to ingredients, and authorship in styles of preparation.
